Peak District Multi-Activity Weekend: Cycling
3 people attending
9 places left
Join Andy for a 40 mile circular cycle ride taking in the scenic High Peak & Tissington Trails and the shores of Carsington Water on this full day event. Our outbound route will be predominantly along former Victorian railway lines, complete with tunnels, preserved stations and signal boxes. The return journey will incorporate quiet country roads and lakeside trails.
This event is open to all abilities and the pace will be relatively leisurely with several breaks. Please bear in mind you will need to cycle approximately 40 miles throughout the day and there will be a few hills too, so you will need to be fairly fit, healthy and confident with cycling. A Hybrid or Trail bike would be best suited for this event - although some of the route will be along roads or trails with road-like surfaces, some of it will be along lower quality tracks.
Cycle Hire - It is possible to hire a bike for the day from a nearby outlet approximately 1.5 miles away from The Glenorchy Centre, Wirksworth (venue for the Multi-Activity Hostel weekend). The cost will be £17, including a helmet. You will need ID and a refundable cash deposit of £20 (the actual hire charge can be paid by debit/credit card).
If you are considering hiring a bike or would like further details, please contact the Event Leader.

What to bring
Apart from your Mountain/Hybrid bike, remember the following:
Food and Drink - Bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
Puncture Repair Kit and Tools (or better still a spare inner tube) and Tyre Levers - Also bring any special tools that your bike needs.
Clothing - Choose suitable clothes and footwear for the weather forecast and time of year. You will be exercising, so lightweight layered clothing is best. Shorts are best even in rain as they allow free movement of your legs. Jeans are useless if it rains and tracksuit bottoms should not be baggy or they may snag in the chain and cause an accident.
Cycle Helmet - Outdoorlads policy asks you to wear a helmet on this event.
Eye Protection - Impact from a bee, grit or even a fly at speed is extremely unpleasant, sunglasses are likely to be fine if they are not made of glass and not too shaded.
Water Bottle - Ideally you should bring a cycle water bottle that attaches to the frame of your bike so you can drink whilst on the move, otherwise you will only be able to drink during stops.
Bag - You are likely to need a small day-sack (or panniers on your bike) to carry essential clothing, water and food/snacks.
Food & drink
Bring a packed lunch and energy snacks to consume on the way around to help you sustain the day’s bike ride.
Bring plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
