Clearly visible and standing out from any others in the area, the Lomond Hills are of volcanic origin.  West Lomond stands at 522m, and East rises to 448m.  The walk visits the tops of both East Lomond and West Lomond, and far-ranging 360-degree views are possible from both summits.

The return from West Lomond via Little Ballo and Ballo Reservoir leads to a final sector via an old location of limekilns with information boards, followed by a gentle walk back to the start. Red grouse, geese and other moorland birds will all be present during November, so bring your binoculars should birds of the feathered variety tickle your fancy!
