The Chiltern Hills are part of a system of Chalk downlands found throughout South East England, and many areas are protected sites and National trust land.
Our walk is intended to showcase this part of the Chilterns. It sets off through the village of Aldbury and then gains height as it zig zags up onto Pitstone Common. As we pass the highest point on the route (249m) we will get some good views back towards the Grand Union canal and Tring. A mile further on, the beacon istelf stands high above the surrounding plains of Bucks, from here you can see the White Lion, carved into The Dunsable Downs, near to Whipsnade zoo. It is a great place to pause for our packed lunches.
After then we will drop down into the village of Ivinghoe, with its pretty widmill and a pub for a quick pint. The return route takes us along the Ridgeway LDP and over Pitstone hill.
