Fancy trying something different? Fancy an evening out of the city? Then this event is for you.
Orienteering includes some map reading skills paired with a little bit of running, walking or even walking your dog. In an orienteering event, the maps that are used are a little different from a normal OS map however they will help you to use the landscape/ features to navigate around the park. The Orienteering Maps may take a little getting used to, have a look at the Intro to Orienteering tab to get an idea of what you are leting yourself in for.
Dogs will be welcome on this event, however if you bring one you are responsible for it and for clearing up after them. If you bring a dog it may limit where we can drink/eat after the event; but that is not insurmountable.
The start is from the car park within the park, the park is located next to Marple Train station.
What to bring
Clothes suitable for running or walking fast and going off track into undergrowth. Approach shoes or trainers with reasonable grip are recomended, some areas may be slightly damp, depending on the weather in the week beforehand
You will need a pencil to write down the symbols as you get to each point; and a plastic bag or a plastic wallet to keep the paper dry is it is raining/ wet.
If you have a compass bring it along, however you can complete the course without one by navigating by the landscape.
Food & drink
A bottle of drink may be handy for during the event, however it is not essential.
After the event we will be heading to a local pub for a drink and maybe food before all heading off in our own directions.
