Monday 3rd - Thursday 6th June

This expedition is a challenging event for which you need to have a good level of fitness and ability to look after yourself in remote territory. The route covers almost 50 miles in mountainous terrain over which you will be carrying all of your own equipment and food which may weigh 15-20kg. If you are unsure if this event is for you please contact the event leader for advice before signing up.

There will also be an online meetup a week or two prior to the event so that event specifics can be run through and any questions answered - non attendance at this may result in removal from the event register.

Come for a summer trek across one of Britain's largest wildernesses as we cross the Cairngorms, from Blair Atholl in the south of the national park to Glenmore deep in Speyside, accessing areas of Scotland that are remote from civilisation.  We will be taking in mountain tops, waterfalls and dramatic glens during our traverse and who knows what wildlife we will see.

Day 1 (Monday)

We will meet up at Blair Atholl and head NE up Glen Tilt, one of Scotland's great historical rights of way. Depending upon how energetic we are feeling we have two options to reach that day's destination of Feith Uaine (The Tarf Hotel) - the easier (but longer) option is to follow the track as it climbs past Dun Mor then head west, or we could walk over Carn a' Chlamain - this would involve a steep climb but it is a shorter distance to reach our destination.  21km / 13 miles.

Day 2 (Tuesday)

We pick up a rough path east away from Feith Uaine and past the Falls of Tarf to pick up the northern reaches of Glen Tilt as it passes over the watershed and into Glen Geldie. We drop down to the red house where we will camp for the night.  15km / 9.2 miles.

Day 3 (Wednesday)

Our third day is a big day.... From the red house we follow the track to white bridge before heading north up Glen Dee.  Where the glen opens up ahead of the Devils Point we head east and make for Gleann Laoigh Bheag - this is our challenge as the path makes a steady climb from 550m to over 1200m, reaching the eastern shoulder of Ben Macdui, the UK's second highest mountain.  If you have the energy we can have a quick detour to the summit before following the path down past Loch Etchachan and to Loch A'an.  That nights campsite is located half way along the lochside.  25km / 15.5 miles.

Day 4 (Thursday)

The final day is an easier but still challenging walk from Loch A'an - we head east to the Fords of Avon before picking up the path north over the wilds of An Lurg, this is a long and exposed section of the route but is the final area away from the tourists, as we drop down towards Ryvoan and through the woods in Glen More to the road at Glenmore itself.  17.3km / 10.7 miles.

This event is limited to 6 places for safety reasons under guidance from Mountaineering Scotland. The route is well away from roads and in the event of an accident we would require the assistance from mountain rescue to get the injured person out.

In the event of an adverse weather forecast this expedition may be altered or postponed by the event leader due to the high level of risk involved with this type of activity - the Cairngorms is a wild and exposed landscape and no place to be in a storm.
