ODL’s Manchester Climbers are going to the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA) - Europe’s largest indoor climbing arena - and would like to invite you to come along!
Built in a disused quarry, the EICA boasts the biggest climbing wall in Europe (if not the world, depending on the source of the boast) and 15 climbing elements providing a range of features and levels. There’s also a ton of other stuff to do at the arena, with aerial assault courses and their ‘Clip n Climb’ challenges which the website insists are for ‘a variety of age groups’. https://www.edinburghleisure.co.uk/venues/edinburgh-international-climbing-arena
This one-time event is being run by Manchester ODL Climbing leaders, but is open to any experienced climbers. Climbing at the EICA costs £10.80 or £7.60 for concessions. Attendee numbers may be negotiable depending upon demand, so we advise anyone interested in attending to sign up, even if all of the spaces are full. We will then be able to assess if additional climbing leaders can / should be registered on the event in order to accommodate those on the waiting list.
We’re really looking forward to this event and getting to know some of ODL’s Scottish members!
What to bring
If you have your own climbing gear i.e. harness, shoes, chalk-bag, Belay plate and screw-gate karabiner, climbing rope, you can bring this along, but please make sure it is in good condition.
As a minimum you will need the use of climbing shoes, a climbing harness and a belay device (belay plate and a screw-gate karabiner, or a gri-gri if you have one).
If you do not have your own, we’re informed that you will be able to hire what you need at the EICA for £3 per item, e.g. harness, shoes, chalk-bag, Belay plate and screw-gate karabiner, etc.
Your belongings can be secured in on-site lockers, which require a £1 coin to operate.
