Yorkshire Dales Camp 2024

Join OutdoorLads for a weekend in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park in late Summer!
We will be camping in Upper Wharfedale, at the foot of Great Whernside. Our location provides stunning views across the valley and opportunity for varied activities, including walking, mountain biking and road cycling. The main event on the Saturday will be a hike with wonderful views across the landscape - so it will involve a climb! There may also be an easier low-level walk (subject to leader availability). On the Sunday there will most likely be a shorter walk on offer.
Our campsite is close to Kettlewell Village which has a range of facilities including three great pubs and an award-winning tearoom. There's even a traditional village store and an outdoor shop in case you forget that essential item. The campsite itself will be for the exclusive use of OutdoorLads, and has its own dedicated facilities, including free high quality hot showers, picnic benches and fire pit. The campsite allows BBQ'S but campfires that are ground based are not permitted. Fires raised off the floor and with protection for the grass underneath are permitted. There are a limited number of electric-hookups available which will be allocated on a first-come first served basis, if you want one of these then message the leader following event registration.
This is a compact site and we would encourage you to bring a smaller rather than a big party tent! You will not be able to park your car immediately next to your tent, but there should be room on site if people try to car share as far as possible.
Dogs: Unfortunately dogs are no longer allowed on site.
Caravans, Campervans, Motorhomes: This site is not suitable for these vehicles. Very small campervans that no larger than a car, are allowed.
Photos: BY the event leaders and used with permission.
Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.

What to bring
In addition to your usual walking equipment you will need to bring your own camping equipment, here is a useful list of suggested items.
Tent: make sure you know how to pitch it, even in bad weather or in the dark. Check you have all the poles, ropes and pegs.
Sleeping bag: one that provides adequate warmth, designed to go below the temperature that you expect
Sleeping mat: will keep you warmer and dryer
Waterproof bags: for spare, dry clothing
Food: search online for camping food that’s easy to cook and filling
Hot drinks: at least in cold weather
Cooking Equipment: check you have fuel and know how yours works
Eating equipment: mug, bowl or plate and cutlery
Washing up equipment: detergent, brush/scourer and tea towel
Wash kit: remember to include a towel, shower gel and shampoo
Torch: or easier still, a head torch
Food & drink
Please bring your own food and drink for the weekend - breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Alternatively there are three pubs, a tea room and a bistro in the village. There is also a traditional local shop for groceries.
Previously we have shared cheese and wine on the Friday night and home cooked goodies after the main activity on the Saturday. The leader usually books a pub for the Saturday evening, keep an eye on event messages - entirely optional of course. Sunday lunch for those fancying a walk can be had a short walk away in Starbottonbac, back in Kettlewell, or in nearby Grassington.
