January can be a gloomy month! Post-Christmas blues, cold days, long dark nights and abandoning your New Year Resolutions can make it all seem a bit glum. No wonder the third Monday of January is called Blue Monday. But you can lift your spirits by joining us for a lovely hostel weekend at this beautiful country house retreat set high in Somerset’s Exmoor hills above Minehead.
Not only is Minehead a picturesque Edwardian and Victorian seaside resort with a cracking mile long sea-front and sandy beach, it’s also the northern gateway to the Exmoor National Park, and the start point of the South West Coast Path.
This is a lovely venue with plenty to do, so cast off the winter blues and all those thoughts about Blue Monday and come along to join friends and a warm welcome at Minehead.
Accommodation: Enchantingly situated in a woodland hideaway, the hostel boasts magnificent grounds and was originally built as a private house in 1914, later becoming a hostel. Designed in the Arts and Crafts style, the house still retains many original features with stripped pine floorboards and a stained glass front door. It’s a smaller hostel with excellent 5*ratings and reviews. There’s a comfortable lounge with a wood burner and good dining room.
Friday Evening: Arrive, meet others and socialise, We'll have the usual Outdoor lads buffet, and possibly an evening activity followed by the welcome meeting.
Saturday Day: After breakfast (which is included in the event cost), we’ll head out (subject to the weather of course!) into the surrounding countryside for a good walk. Please bring a packed lunch with you and maybe pack a flask for a hot drink if it’s really wintery.
Saturday Evening: We’ll light the wood burner and relax. Dinner is included in the event cost, after which we may have an activity to join in if you wish.
Sunday: After breakfast (included in the event cost) you are either free to go home or join in a possible activity such as a visit to the Dunster Castle, and maybe end up at a local pub for a Sunday roast before heading home.
Dogs: Sorry, the event is not suitable for dogs.
