Winter Camp 2020: Pods
12 people attending
0 places left
As famous as our biggest BIG events, Winter Camp is our annual pilgrimage back to the "birthplace" of OutdoorLads. It was here, at Great Langdale Campsite that the first informal event took place in February 2006. Every year we return to enjoy this wonderful part of the country in the Langdale Fells nestled between mountains, tarns, forests and of course, great pubs!
If you fancy something a little different to camping, then this event page is for the small selection of Camping Pods that are on site. What is a camping pod you ask? Well....its a very warm, insulated cabin keeping you sheltered from the elements but still very close to the great outdoors. The pods have heating, lighting, double glazing and lockable doors. If you are still not sure what a Camping Pod is, type it into google and enjoy.....
You will need to bring everything but your tent basically so you still need bedding/sleeping bag plus sleep mat and any cooking implements. Double air beds are possible in the pods but only if you are sharing the air bed with your fellow occupant!
Pods are shared by 2 or 3 people. So if you want to share with a specific person, please message the leader when you pay for your place(s) so we can add you to the list of requests. (However we can't guarantee that you'll get a two person pod.)
Join us at Great Langdale where we enjoy great onsite facilities including a cafe serving early morning breakfast snacks and some truly great onsite showers which are free to use and heated by the onsite Biomass boiler! Truly environmentally friendly!
THIS PAGE IS TO RESERVE AND PAY FOR A CAMPING POD PLACE. IF YOU PREFER THE IDEA OF A CAMPING (you brave souls!!) THEN PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR THAT PAGE.
Dogs: Sadly, dogs are not allowed in the pods. Sorry!
Photos: All event page photos were taken by the event leader, Danny McKeown-Henshall, permission for OutdoorLads to use them is duly granted.
What to bring
Sleeping bag: one that provides adequate warmth, designed to go below the temperature that you expect. Ideally a minimum of a 3 season sleeping bag should be used in conjunction with additional blankets. A 4 season sleeping bag would be wiser. You can bring bedding instead but bring plenty if so, believe me!
Waterproof bags: for spare, dry clothing
Hot drinks: at least in cold weather
Cooking Equipment: check you have fuel and know how yours works
Eating equipment: mug, bowl or plate and cutlery
Washing up equipment: detergent, brush/scourer and tea towel
Wash kit: remember to include a towel, shower gel and shampoo
Torch: a head torch would be best. Please check batteries.
Food & drink
If you wish to cook on site, then please ensure you bring your camping stove, gas and cooking utensils/implements.
You will need your own lunch bits for Saturday walking - though there aren't fridges on site, the outside temperature should be around that of a domestic fridge so food will keep fine if that is the case.
There is a small shop on site serving basic goods and hot food but its opening times are limited.
Located nearby are three pubs; The Old Dungeon Ghyll, The New Dungeon Ghyll and The Stickle Barn, all within a half to just under 1 mile walk on tarmac road. All serve food and a great selection of ales, wines and spirits. We will confirm our planned pub for meeting each night in so that everyone knows where we will be.
On Saturday night, we normally book into one of the pubs for a meal together, this isn't mandatory but if you want to join, then let the leader know when asked, closer to the time.
