Wild camping on the Fairfield Horseshoe

Tonight is the peak of the Perseids meteor shower, so what better way to enjoy it but sleeping beneath the stars? We will be hiking the Fairfield horseshoe, with an overnight camp along the way.
Starting at Ambleside, we can tailor our exact route and distance according to how much time we have - we may even make it as far as Helvelyn - but we will aim to spend the night in the luxurious (by cave standards) Priest Hole, which looks out from beneath Dove Crag. This is a very small shelter, however, and can become rather full, so we will be geared up to camp beneath canvas if needed.
Sunday morning, we can either scamper back to Ambleside for a fry-up, or spend a little more time exploring the uplands around us.

What to bring
In addition to the usual hillwalking gear - boots, waterproofs, warm underlayer, rucksack - you will need to bring your camping kit:
- Lightweight tent (or pair up and share)
- Sleeping matt
- Gore-tex bivvy bag (if you have one)
- Sleeping bag
- Spare dry clothes
- Extra Water
- camping stove, fuel and pans
- Head torch and candles!
Food & drink
You will need to bring enough food and water for your luch on the saturday, for dinner on the Saturday evening, as well as breakfast on Sunday. We may be able to find water on the fell, but it would require boiling/traeatment.
