Under and over the Standedge Tunnel
11 people attending
9 places left
This event includes the option of a guided boat trip through a section of the Standedge Tunnel.
The Standedge canal tunnel is longest, highest and deepest canal in the world and one of the "7 wonders” of the British Waterways!
From the start point we'll take a short walk along the towpath to the entrance of the tunnel where there will be a chance to get some food/drink from the cafe prior to the start of the boat trip.
See details in location section for boat trip booking times and information and options should you just want to join the walk.
I would recommend booking the tickets in advance to secure your ticket and avoid any disappointment should the trip boat fill up as the trip is open to the public and walk-ups on the day.
After the boat trip, we’ll head up towards Pule Hill, passing a 2nd World War Memorial.
We’ll take a short de-tour to visit a Stanza Stone, one of 6 stones located across Yorkshire which contain carvings of poetry written by the Poet Laureate Simon Armitage.
We’ll then continue the accent to the top of Pule Hill where we’ll take a few minutes stop to take in the views. We’ll then head on to Black Moss Reservoir where we’ll stop for lunch.
Well then start our decent following parts of the Pennine Way and Kirklees Way and passing by Wesenden, Blakeley and Butterley Reservoir’s as we make our way back into Marsden where there will be an option for a post-walk drink/food.
