Styal Woods and the Airport
18 people attending
2 places left
A leisurely walk from Styal, home to Quarry Bank Mill, a National Trust site and one of Britains greatest industrial heritage sites.
After walking pass the the Mill, we will head out along the River Bollin Valley towards Mobberley until we meet the airport perimeter where we will pass under the 2nd Runway via the River Bollin Tunnel. We then continue along a mixture of footpaths and quiet roads along the Northside of the 2nd runway to the end of the runway before crossing to return along the Southside of the second runway.
As we walk along the Southside of the runway, we will have some good views across the airfield , and should the 2nd runway be in use we will have the opportunity to view aircraft at close quarters, the walk has been timed to give a reasonable chance of seeing the Emirates A380 take off.
There should be the opportunity to visit a pub at the end of the walk for anyone who wishes.

What to bring
The majority of the walk is on good paths, but short sections of mud can be expected so boots are recommended, rather than your best trainers or leather shoes.

Please bring a packed lunch with plenty of food and drink to last you all day.
