South Downs East Meon 9.5 miles circular
12 people attending
8 places left
Waitlist: This event is fully booked, however, if you'd like to attend, add yourself to the waitlist, places often become available closer to the date, and chances are you may still get a place.
Come and join us for a beautiful 9.5 miles (15km) circuit loop from the Sustainability Centre near Petersfield. We will head in a clockwise direction to East Meon and back. There are moderate hills including north bound and then southbound crossings of the South Downs.
Don't waste that space!
Spring walks get busy so please only book if you know you can make it. If your plans change please free up the space for someone else.
Dogs are welcome to join us on this event but we do ask the following:
Please ensure you adhere to the Countryside Code at all times - see (Keeping Dogs Under Effective Control)
If your dog is uncontrolled and strays in open land frightening other animals or livestock, the leader is supported by the OutdoorLads board of trustees to ask you to leave the event as this is not acceptable behaviour.
The walk is suitable for dogs with just few stiles, but they will need to be kept under control near other walkers, some stretches of road, and in East Meon.
Is this your first ODL event?
Attending your first event with OutdoorLads might feel daunting. What will happen, who will be there, and what can you expect? We know that new members in particular like to know in advance more about what an OutdoorLads event will be like.
If this is your first ODL event, you should check out the information designed specifically for you on the My First Event page on the ODL website. If you have any other questions you can send a message to the leader
Parking
The Sustainability Centre is our meeting place, the centre's parking policy states that their carpark spaces are only available whilst using their facilities.
It is suggested to arrive a little earlier - to allow time to find a park on the nearby street - I would suggest to check Droxford Road or Hyden Farm Lane.
IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.

What to bring
Water: bring at least two litres
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking NOT trainers. We will be passing by several natural springs where the ground will most likely be muddy.
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
Trousers: ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days shorts are OK
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry
Gloves: Windproof, or better still, waterproof gloves are the best choice, bring a spare pair if expecting rain
Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
Sunglasses: for any sunny day, even in winter
Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example and put them somewhere easy to get hold of
Lunch: bring a packed lunch unless otherwise stated
Food & drink
A packed lunch and plenty to drink will be essential on this walk. We may stop at the pub depending on timings and how the group votes!
