Slack Head and Chew

Starting from the centre of Greenfield we will head to Dovestone reservoir before ascending Chew valley, we will then traverse the edge of Whimberry Moss and Slack Head Brow to Alphin Pike, which affords some fantastic views across Manchester and on to the Cheshire plain and the Welsh hills beyond. From here we will head down across Buckton Moor, through some ancient woodland, before following part of the Tameside Trail along Moor Edge Road back into Greenfield.
Part of the route takes us across moorland which was badly damaged during the wildfires of summer 2018, you will see that some areas are recovering well, but there are still obvious signs of fire damage in other areas.
Whilst I am always happy to accept dogs on my walks, please be advised that some parts of this route will require them to be kept on leads and there are a few stiles which they will need to be lifted over as there are no dog gates available.
