The Silverstone Circuit (MTB only)

Everyone knows Silverstone, whether you are a petrol head or not, the track is the legendary home of British Formula 1 motor racing. What most people don't realise is that there is public trail that runs around the back of the track; and although you won't see much from the wire fence, you will see the Porsche skid pads and hear the scream of the cars hammering around the course.
Trying to pick a weekend when the track doesn't have an event in summer is nigh on impossible, every weekend is race weekend! This weekend will be the Historic Sportscar Club annual grand prix; which is one of the quieter club events. Not quiet on the track!
Our route will start from Hazelborough Forest, just outside Silverstone village and we will pass around the back of the circuit on our first leg; through the forest and then out across some arable fields and then open sheep farming country following a combination of dirt tracks and bridle paths. You absolutely have to have a MTB for this, parts of the route are a little technical and parts can be brutal on your suspension over short distances. The route is beautiful, and a bit of a challenge.

I recommend some padded cycle shorts for comfort and in addition to your usual kit you may prefer some lightweight full length trousers to change into where some of those stinging nettles crowd the path. Bring a packed lunch, there isn't a pub stop until the end.

What to bring
You must wear a cycle helmet for this event.
Bring sun cream.
Bring safety glasses to protect against the mud flicking off your tyres.
Bring a spare inner tube, tyre levers, bike pump and any specialist gear your bike needs for repairs.
Bring a small rucksack for your lunch and kit.
Wear some outdoor walking shoes, old trainers or trainer boots and expect it to be muddy in places.
Bring some dry socks and trainers to change into at the end.
Expect the potential for rain and wear quick drying clothes.
Bring a waterproof jacket that you can fold down into your daypack.
The trail is rough, you might find padded cycle shorts a good base layer option.
Bring plenty of water, a packed lunch and some energy food (chocolate, sweets etc.).
Carry some money for the pub.
If you carry important medicines, please let me know privately.
Food & drink
Bring a packed lunch, there are no shops along the way, and no pubs until we reach our final stop.
