Bredon Hill, Worcestershire, offers the most amazing panoramic views across the English Midlands. I cannot believe it but Bredon appears to be a virgin for OutdoorLads – I can find no record of an event getting up it before! Come and find out some of the secrets of this hill as we walk from bottom to top.

The walk begins in the sleepy village of Beckford. Park at Beckford Village Hall next to the Croquet lawns. Passing fields of thoroughbred horses and traditional orchards, the walk then rises by the King and Queen stones for a full-frontal view of the Malverns.

Whilst on top, we will be delving into some of the secrets of the hill, which go back to the Iron Age. Objects most valuable were discovered here. A parson erected something. And a closeted gay poet composed poetry, as well as secret letters. A Victorian scene: ‘When nature painted all things gay,’ was drawn here too. From the top, a small dip conceals a lump in a most peculiar shape. Come and find out more about these secrets on the walk.

Having climbed to 299m (just under 1000 feet), we stay up and to take in the surroundings. Our route takes us along the north then east of the hill with views across the Midlands and to the Cotswold hills to the south, descending gently and passing through farmland before returning to Beckford. You can follow the route here.

After the walk, the Beckford Inn, which calls itself a Butcombe Inn, is just down the road by the A46 junction. You are welcome to join me there after the walk. This is a dog friendly pub.
