Join us for an evening of indoor climbing and bouldering at Parthian Climbing in Reading!
This page is for experienced roped climbers who are able to register with the climbing wall as an "unsupervised climber". To do so you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:
- Correctly fitting a harness
- Tying in with an appropriate knot
- Belaying
New to roped climbing but want to give it a go? No problem - our leader will happily show you the ropes! We will need to sign you in to the wall as a "novice" so please sign up using this page so that we can ensure the required ratio of supervisors to novices:

Prefer just bouldering (shorter routes without the need for ropes)? We do that too! Please sign up on this event page so that our bouldering leader knows to expect you:

About the centre
Parthian Climbing Reading has something for everyone with 120 top rope and auto-belay routes, 75 lead routes and 100 bouldering problems. There's a gym/training area, gear shop, and even a cafe for when you need a break from all that climbing.
What to expect at the session
We'll do a group warmup before splitting off to either get roped up or head to the bouldering area. Experienced roped climbers can pair up and the leader will go through the basics with any beginners. We normally all catch-up again over a drink in the cafe at the end of the session.
First visit to Parthian Climbing as an experienced climber
On your first visit you will need to register with the centre and answer some basic questions to confirm that you can climb safely without supervision. The registration can be completed online before you arrive to save time on the day:

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
All those attending the event must also be aware of the centre's own terms and conditions of participation and abide by them, along with any instructions given by the centre’s staff. Everyone must also take responsibility for their own safety while participating in Indoor climbing events.

What to bring
Lockers are available but require your own padlock.
Climbing gear
Climbing shoes, harnesses, and belay devices can all be hired from the centre (at additional cost) if you do not have your own. For lead climbing, you or your partner will need to provide your own rope.
What to wear
It is best to wear clothes that allow you to move freely so think shorts or tracksuit bottoms rather than jeans. Jewellery such as watches, rings or bracelets should be removed for safety reasons.
Food & drink
We don't have a planned break but encourage everyone to rest and rehydrate throughout the session as needed. Drinks and snacks are available to purchase at the cafe, and water fountains are available for refilling water bottles.
Catching up with people over a drink at the end of the session is a good opportunity to get to know your fellow OutdoorLads!
