A steady leisure cycle

Join Paul for this any bike any rider leisure cycle  around South Manchester

This ride is great if you are fairly new to cycling or haven't ridden for a while. If you're an experienced cyclist in the mood for something a little more gentle, this is the ride for you too.

Starting from Chorlton Water Park, we'll head south to Wythenshawe. The route then skirts the perimeter of Manchester Airport on quiet lanes, cycle paths and off-road trails. From the gentle rolling cycleway, we'll be able to see the arrivals and departures at one of the UK's busiest airports.

A slight detour from the cycleway will take us to the airport's viewing park, where we will stop for a break. Food and drink are available from the cafe or you can bring your own.

On our way back we will call at Sale Water Park and there's the option of a pub stop near the end of the ride if anyone fancies it.

Pace and Terrain

This will be a leisurely ride suitable for all levels of fitness. We will cycle for about 3 hours at at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph. The overall event timing is 5 hours to allow for our planned breaks and the natural stops and starts of any bike ride.

Due to the mixed nature of the route's surfaces, if you have a road bikes with narrow tyres there are some spots where caution will be needed. We'll stick to the pace of the slowest rider so no one will get left behind.

If you're not a regular cyclist, please do make sure your bike is in good condition - check the tyres are well inflated, chain is oiled, and you've got a spare inner tube, drinks and snacks with you.
