Pennington Flash Canal Walk with Optional Lunch

Join Andy and the OutdoorLads for a leisurely Saturday stroll around the Pennington Flash Local Nature Reserve and the Leigh branch of the Leeds - Liverpool canal system. 

This is a leisure walk of approximately 6 miles with plenty of additional options, including the choice of a lush pub lunch and some refreshments afterwards.

Starting at the nature reserve at 10:45hrs, we will walk around the lake and admire the local wildlife and then join the canal network where we will join the Leeds-Liverpool Shipping route. We will also take in sights such as the nearby marina and the wellbeing gardens. We will stop off at The Nevison Country Inn around lunch time to enjoy some lovely homecooked food and the wonderful company of the staff. Alternatively, bring a packed lunch with you.

At 14:00hrs, we will leave the pub and complete the rest of the walk - aiming to finish at 15:30hrs.

This walk is mostly flat and the paths are of excellent quality, wide, and well maintained.

Plenty of parking - 3 large car parks available. For those wanting a coffee or a bacon butty etc. prior to the walk, then you can visit the fantastic new café, The Hide Coffee House, (with indoor and outdoor seating), which is located next to the main car park and golf hut opposite the lake.

You may wish to bring your cameras and binoculars as there are many species of animals including a variety of birds that visit the area, including; Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Mute Swan, Shelduck, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Shoveler, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye, Rudy Duck, Canada Goose, Moorhen and Coot.

Upon entering the grounds of the Pennington Country Park, follow the road to the left, passing the small car park. You will then reach the large/main car park. We will meet in the middle of the large car park.

Please feel free to bring your dogs for this event. The more the merrier ! The Nevison Country Inn is a very dog friendly pub. It is a large bespoke place with open air-seating, a large beer garden, plenty of parking and great selection of ales and ciders !
