Nettleton Top Day Walk

This 11.2 mile/ 18 km walk explores the rolling landscapes of the Lincolnshire Wolds, beginning in the village of Nettleton, just south of Caistor. From here, the route climbs onto the Wolds, revealing wide-reaching views towards the River Trent and Lincoln Cathedral before dropping into the peaceful Nettleton Valley. Now a quiet, grassy stretch of the Viking Way, it was once a hub of industry, with ironstone mining shaping the land until just a few decades ago.
The walk continues towards Wolds Top, also known as Normanby Hill - the highest point in Lincolnshire. Standing near the summit is the National Air Traffic Control Radar, its distinctive domed structure often compared to a giant golf ball. From here, the route heads towards the small village of Rothwell, where The Blacksmith’s Arms offers a welcome stop for a drink. After Rothwell, we climb briefly, then follow the route back towards Nettleton.
After the walk, there’s the opportunity to relax with a drink at The Salutation Inn, a perfect way to end the day.
For those interested in a Parkrun before the event, the nearest one is at Market Rasen, just 9 miles (15 minutes) away.
