The walk is approximately 10-miles long through mixed terrain including a lengthy and steep uphill climb. It can be quite uneven and rocky underfoot in places, especially on the limestone pavement.

Join Mike and OutdoorLads for a 10-mile circular walk in the Yorkshire Dales, starting and ending in Malham and passing some amazing geological features along the way.

Janet’s Foss

Firstly, our walk will pass Janet’s Foss, a beautiful waterfall cascading into the plunge pool below. It is believed that the waterfall takes its name from a fabled fairy queen who reportedly lived in the cave beside the falls. This spot is a haven for wild swimmers.

Gordale Scar

We will then head towards Gordale Scar, a breath-taking limestone ravine with two waterfalls and overhanging cliffs. For fans of ‘The Witcher’ on Netflix, Gordale Scar was used as a location for filming. This is a unique and interesting spot, where climbers can often be found tackling the crag.

Malham Tarn

An uphill ascent takes us towards Malham Tarn, a glacial lake 377 metres above sea level and one of only eight upland alkaline lakes in Europe. The site is owned by the National Trust and is designated as a wetland of international importance.

Malham Cove

For the final part of the walk we will arrive at Malham Cove, a curved limestone cliff formed by glacial meltwater at the end of the last Ice Age. We will walk along the limestone pavement at the top of the cove taking in spectacular views of Malham and the surrounding countryside. The Cove is a haven for climbers and a popular beauty spot. For Harry Potter fans, the limestone pavement at the top of the cove was used as a location for filming in ‘The Deathly Hallows’.

We will stop for lunch at the midway point of the walk. There will be an opportunity to stop for a drink at one of the local establishments when we arrive back in Malham at the end of our walk.
