Meikle Bin and the Carron Valley

On the eastern edge of the Campsie Hills, Meikle Bin is perhaps one of the only hills in Scotland where it's possible to take in both East and West coast views of Scotland from its summit.
The Carron Valley has also been used as a location for the Outlander TV series because of its stunning scenery. All in, the hill makes for a rewarding climb and enjoyable day out, with something for everyone.
The walk skirts the side of the Carron Valley reservoir and meanders through forest paths before beginning a fairly steady climb up Meikle Bin itself.
The path up the hill (570m at the summit) is rather sparse and boggy in places, so appropriate footwear is needed, even if it is not raining on the day.
On the way up Meikle Bin, we might also stumble across the remnants of a World War two-era plane which crashed into the side of Meikle Bin in 1950.
We will try and make a stop for lunch somewhere sheltered and, depending on the weather and if we make good progress after the descent, we may be able to take in some more views of the reservoir by looping round part of the forest before returning to the carpark.
Unfortunately, there is no public transport available to the Carron Valley. Please use the 'Comments' section on the event page to arrange carsharing.
