Time to blow the January blues away, start the year with a blast of fresh air and burn off some of the excess from Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Maldon and Heybridge Basin is a circular walk starting and finishing at All Saints Church Maldon and will be approximately 8 miles. Meeting at All Saints Church, Maldon, we'll take a walk through the town down to the River Chelmer, visit the Byrhtnoth statue then head out and around Heybridge Basin. Half way around the basin where the River Chelmer enters the basin by the Heybridge Lock we'll stop for lunch - here there are some pubs and a Tiptree tea room - as we're a big group getting a seat here may be tricky as it's very popular, but we can see on the day depending on numbers. As we start early to capture the day light we may be lucky.
After lunch we'll loop back up along the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation, back in to Maldon and finish where we started, and finish off with a well earned drink before we all head off home.
What to bring
Please dress for the weather - you'll need decent walking shoes or boots and layers to keep you both warm and cool, depending on the weather.
Food & drink
The aim is to stop in Heybridge basin where there is a pub and a Tiptree team room. However we cannot guanratee they'll be able to seat us all for food so please plan to bring a packed lunch.
