Llantrisant Ridgeway and the Garth Mountain

Meeting and starting from Pontyclun station, 12 minutes out of Cardiff Central by train (the walk is timed so that people can catch the 10.18 train from Cardiff to Pontyclun), we will head up in to the broad leafy Llantrisant Forest then across the Ely Valley and around the hilly 'Old Town' of Llantrisant with its spectacular views over the Vale of Glamorgan. Following the ridgeway over the Roman Fort of Rhiwsaeson to Creigiau, we will ascent to the summit of Garth Mountain - affording spectacular views of the valleys - before descneding into the leafy village of Gwaelod y Garth for a pint at their award winning pub. We wil finish by dropping down along the River Taff to the rail station at Taff's Well, where there are regular services back to Cardiff Central.


What to bring
Check the WEATHER FORECAST e.g. http://www.metcheck.com or http://www.meteox.com before setting out and wear appropriate clothing. If it looks wet you will need sufficient outdoor clothing and layers. Walking boots are strongly recommended for this route, as cliffs and woodland paths may be slippery.
Food & drink
You will need to bring a packed lunch and at least a litre of WATERis essential (isotonic drinks are better at rehydration) for this router, or more in hot weather. A good sunscreen and/or a hat may be needed too.
