Meeting and starting from Pontyclun station, 12 minutes out of Cardiff Central by train (the walk is timed so that people can catch the 10.18 train from Cardiff to Pontyclun), we will head up in to the broad leafy Llantrisant Forest then across the Ely Valley and around the hilly 'Old Town' of Llantrisant with its spectacular views over the Vale of Glamorgan. Following the ridgeway over the Roman Fort of Rhiwsaeson to Creigiau, we will ascent to the summit of Garth Mountain - affording spectacular views of the valleys - before descneding into the leafy village of Gwaelod y Garth for a pint at their award winning pub. We wil finish by dropping down along the River Taff to the rail station at Taff's Well, where there are regular services back to Cardiff Central.
