Join David on this road cycling weekend in the Lake District, catching the stunning sights, sounds and smells of autumn in the Lakes.
Overview
We'll be riding right around the Lakes, staying in Windermere and Buttermere. You'll see a great deal of this stunning part of the country, and you'll get a chance to get a couple of decent rides in before the winter. On this event, we've booked a couple of rooms (rather than the whole hostel), and there will be an option of a pub meal on the Friday and Saturday nights.
Please note our cycling events are a little different to our walking hostels, and there will be no evening buffet or other events at the hostel. Food is not included in the event price.
Style, pace and terrain
This is primarily an adventure focussed event. There will be earlyish starts to make the most of the limited daylight (0930ish), and despite the pub the night before you'll want to be on good form for the cycling! That said, it will be very relaxed with plenty of rest stops to look at interesting things, as anyone who has been on my rides in the South East will know. It'll be touring rather than club style riding.
During the rides, we will stop for slower riders to catch up whilst going faster in between stops to allow them to develop their technique and fitness. Anyone who commutes over 3 miles or has recently cycled over 20 miles without difficulty will be able to complete the rides easily.

What to bring
Road or hybrid bike
Please bring suitable kit for riding in wet and cold weather.
Overshoes, gloves and a good waterproof jacket are absolutely essential. A lightweight fleece would be advisable. That said, it could very well be beautifully warm and sunny!
You will need to be able to comfortably carry all your clothing and food, including dry clothing for the next day, with you on the ride. A pannier is suggested but a backpack will do if you have a bag inside to store your dry clothes.
You'll need a towel for the hostel.
We won't be eating anywhere fancy so there is no need to bring separate clothing for the evening - this will just slow you down!
Food & drink
Please note no food is included in the event price - this only covers accomodation.
On the Friday and Saturday nights a table will be booked in a local pub (pay on the day). Alternatively you can bring your own food to the hostel. The event leader will contact you three weeks before the event to check if you want a meal at the pub on both or either nights. Please note there will be a short cycle to and from the pub which will involve a fairly steep uphill section in Windermere!
Both hostels will be serving a cooked breakfast.
On each day you'll also need a packed lunch. We will stop briefly at a supermaket in Ambleside on the Saturday and Keswick on the Sunday. Please bring plenty of snacks, and suitable water bottles.
