The walk is 10 miles long, in and out of the river valley and over a ridge.

This is the area I grew up in, we used to have Scout wide games in the woods and play by the river.  The former Chairman of the Bank of England owned much of the woodland and we had to avoid his gamekeepers when cycling there.

The walk goes from Barming Station to Barming Village through the woods, drops down to the River Medway and heads for Wateringbury where we discover part of the wartime Operation Pluto oil pipeline to Normandy.

On the way to Wateringbury we cross Barming, Teston and Wateringbury Bridges. Teston Bridge was blown up in the 1942 movie the Foreman went to France which was set in France  but filmed in Kent because France was held by the Germans at the time. You can spot Kentish oast houses in the movie (which the French don't have) while German and French soldiers were played by the Free French Forces.

Then the walk goes back into the woods until it reaches the North Pole pub.

After R&R we head to East Malling, through the East Malling Research Station ( fruit research) and back to Barming Station.
