GET SOCIAL THIS JANUARY! This event is one of loads of events taking place over the same weekend! Check out all the events over the weekend of 17-19 January 2025: OutdoorLads.events/JAN25. Great for new and regular members!
Join us for a linear (and mostly flat!) walk in rural Inverclyde as we discover the Kelly Cut - a non-navigable canal once used to feed water from the Kelly Reservoir, near Wemyss Bay to the Compensation Reservoir, which in turn, fed water to the Greenock Cut (previously walked by ODL on a couple of occasions), the latter having been used to supply water to the local industries (including paper, textiles, ropes, sugar refining, iron and shipbuilding) during the industrial revolution.
If it's a clear day we should be rewarded with some fine views across the Firth of Clyde to Bute, Cowal and the snow-topped hills of Argyll.
Dogs: this walk is suitable for dogs, which must be kept under control at all times, particularly near livestock.

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
What to bring
Please pack according to the weather. The route may be muddy or with lying snow in places, but mostly fairly good paths. Hiking boots, waterproofs, warm clothing, a small rucksack and food and drink are recommended. You may get away with wearing trainers for this walk provided they have good grips on the soles and you don't mind getting them wet and muddy!
Food & drink
Bring a packed lunch and some drinks and other snacks. There is a small fishermen's café by Loch Thom - but it may not be open at this time of year. If time allows, we may include a café stop in Wemyss Bay at the end of the walk before catching the train back.
