Craving some history and culture followed by a nice Sunday lunch? Well step this way…
The Imperial War Museum North, the Northern counterpart to the IWM London opened on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in 2002
Designed by famed architect Daniel Libeskind, IWM North’s architecture delivers an award-winning immersive experience. Walk through a timeline of history from the First World War to the present day. Explore over 2,000 objects and immerse yourself in the 360-degree cinematic Big Picture Show.
As well as the main exhibition space which shows the timeline of war up to the present day there is currently an exhibition called Ukraine: Our Ordinary Lives - Spanning the period since the 2022 invasion, IWM North’s Big Picture Show uses powerful real-life stories to highlight the experiences of 15 young Ukrainians, exploring their lives as they try to find normality, living their ordinary lives through extraordinarily challenging times.
More information about the museum and its up to date exhibitions can be found here
Entry to the Museum is free of charge, it is however a charity so we would encourage donations of whatever you can manage to be made.
Once done at the museum, for those who are hungry, we will head over to Central Bay Food Hall in the Lowry Mall, there you can choose from over a dozen different independent vendors - a full list of the vendors and their menus can be found here.
