Swap trainers for climbing shoes and join OutdoorLads for a day of INDOOR ROPED CLIMBING at RockCity in Hull.
If you haven't been to RockCity before, please head to their website to complete the membership form and purchase a Peak Day Pass before coming to the centre. If you are a competent climber, please complete the adult roped climbing membership. If you're not a confident climber this is absolutely fine. Please just complete the bouldering membership form and you will be supervised by and ODL climbing leader, who will also show you all you need to know to become a competent climber.
So.... a bit about climbing...
Climbing is a total body workout. It is not just about strength, but requires balance, problem solving and planning. Climbing routes are like puzzles that might need some breaking down, planning or practice. Indoor climbing centres offer the challenges of climbing that you'll find on natural rock crags - simply indoors! It's a fun way to stay fit, make new friends and develop your climbing skills.
I'm completely new to climbing - can I come along? Yes! Beginners are very welcome. If you've never climbed before, just let us know by messaging the event leader, so we can arrange for you to be signed into the climbing centre as a supervised climber so that you can come and give it a try. You'll need to complete the bouldering membership form on the RockCity website and buy a peak day pass. Please note that we are limited by the climbing centre as to the number of novice climbers we can supervise, according to the number of experienced people / staff available at the event.
Do I have to be Supervised as a Climber? If you can answer YES to all these questions, you can climb without supervision and you'll just need to complete an adult roped climbing membership and purchase a peak day pass.
- Can you fit a climbing harness correctly?
- Can you tie in to a rope using the correct knots?
- Can you belay another climber correctly and confidently?
What other Climbing events do OutdoorLads Run? We run regular indoor climbing and bouldering events across the UK. We are always keen to put more on, so if you fancy climbing in your local area contact a climbing leader and we can see what we can arrange.

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not experts, do not need to be experts, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as experts, but are amateurs with some experience in the event type and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
By signing up to and attending an OutdoorLads event, you are confirming that you have read, understood and accept the content of this statement.
Please see our website for more information including an FAQ about our events.
What to bring
Climbing shoes if you have them. Don't worry if not - these can be hired from the centre.
Make sure to wear something that allows you to move around freely, like shorts/joggers and a t-shirt. Jeans are not recommended. A hoody if it's cold.
Food & drink
There is a cafe area at the centre where drinks and snacks can be purchased. We generally take a break in the middle of the session.
