Historic Worcester and an Autumn Melody
10 people attending
10 places left
This is a mellow autumn melody. It is a melody in that we shall explore the musical heritage of Britain through Edward Elgar. He was born here and as he grew up, he took out his most precious object, his instrument, to fiddle daily and improve he skill, until he became a world famous player!
The walk is in two parts:
First, we will make a 2-mile tour of Worcester city centre, taking in the vistas of River Severn and Cathedral, and passing the famous Porcelain and Armoury heritage quarters.
The Fort Park gives us an unrivalled view of the area, from where we pass Grey Friars and the Corn Market, taking in the medieval and Civil War history as we go.
We’ll stop around 12.15 in Broad Street for lunch. You can either bring your own or experience The Cocky Anchor or any of the cafes and eateries around here.
Second, we pass the start point and cross the River Severn on Sabrina footbridge by the Horse-racing ground, then make out to the gentle meadows of Broadheath, in a 6-mile country amble. The paths are good.
Edward Elgar is Britain’s best-known composer, and his birthplace is here, preserved as a museum by the National Trust. We then return to our start point along the Three Choirs Way trail.
Our walk will not be complete before revealing some of the LGBTQ secrets from the heritage of famous musicians along the way!
Dogs are welcome on this walk.
If you wish to participate in one of the two parts, rather than both - that's fine - just let me know.
