A moderate day hill-walk in the attractive Moffat Hills

The Moffat Hills lie just to the NE of the spa town in upper Annandale which they are named after.

Our walk will start a few miles to the North of Moffat and follow a path up the SW ridge past Hartfell Spa onto the summit of Hart Fell (808m) - one of only seven Corbetts in the Scottish Southern Uplands. We will then follow a ridge westwards to the Devil's Beef Tub - a deep hollow close to the source of the River Annan so named as it was once used as a hiding place for stolen cattle by the Borders Reivers, before descending a short steep slope to take us back to our start point.
