Great Scrambles on Great Gable

If you like your scrambling on the challenging side this could be the event for you, with a Lakeland Classic Grade 2 Scramble Day.
Great Gable is one of most popular mountains of the Lakeland fells. Although it is dome-shaped in most directions, there are some wonderful crags to the south (Westmorland Crag & Napes) which require more skill and nerve to ascend than is possessed by your average hiker. These lofty crags are territory of Ravens, but often visited by scramblers & climbers alike, and are considered by some to mark the origins of English rock climbing.
Starting from the wonderfully airy 'Climbers Traverse' on the front of Napes your aim aim for the day is to link three of the scrambles together - Tread the Needle, Sphinx Ridge and Westmoreland Crag, which will eventual get us to the summit of Great Gable.
The routes are challenging & exposed in places, and although you don’t need technical rock climbing skills you will definitely need a head for heights, sure footedness and a sense of adventure. This route is best suited to members who have scrambled confidently before.
Please only click into this event if you have experience of at least Grade 1 scrambles and that you are comfortable/confident scrambling at that grade. If you have any doubts about your ability then is event is not for you.
You will need a climbing helmet for this event.
Please note that the event may be liable to change or cancellation due to inclement weather.

What to bring
Mountain Kit (waterproofs, personal first aid kit, spare layer, food/water, etc, but please pack lite), plus:
You will need a climbing helmet. Please let Andy know if you need to borrow one.
Also, although this grade of scramble is possible in a walking boot, you will feel more secure with a firm soled scrambling boot (B2) or an approach shoe. If you are going to wear walking boots you may want to bring a pair of rock shoes for the challenging climbing sections.
I will conduct a quick kit check before we set off to ensure everyone is suitably equipped.
Food & drink
Bring plenty of high energy food and liquids for a long day on the mountain.
