Glen Feshie gravel ride - the best of Cairngorm scenery!

Come for a gravel ride through some of the Cairngorms finest scenery. This route takes in Lochs, rivers, munro views and gorgeous forests. This route is from a great book on gravel rides in Scotland. We start from the car park at Loch An Eilein and ride south along a quiet road towards Feshiebridge, then get into the forest trails. There is another road section later on, this is also a very quiet road, otherwise it is a mixture of forest trails. They should mainly be non-technical and relatively straightforward to ride, but there can easily be muddy, rocky or tree-rooty sections that may be more tricky, with the possibility of needing to get off and push for short sections. There are also some small river sections that may need to be negotiated. Therefore, good quality bikes with reasonably wide, grippy tyres are necessary. Remember, this is the highlands, so expect some hills!
This area is reasonably remote, without any shops, cafes or facilities (unless you detour to Kincraig), so you must take all food, water, snacks and basic bike maintenance equipment (a spare inner tube is a must!) with you. The weather can be quite changeable and cold at this time of year, so gloves, waterproofs, etc. are all needed.
The cycle is 29 miles long if starting and finishing at the loch an eilein car park. The distance from Badaguish to the Loch an Eilein car park is 5 miles. You can drive here and pay to park. I plan to cycle straight from Badaguish, which is a pretty flat and nicely scenic 5 miles there and 5 miles back - all welcome to accompany me, or to meet me at the car park if you think 29 miles is enough for you.
🚲 There are a number of bike hire places, for example in your element or backcountry scot.

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete the Cycling Participation Statement in addition to booking your event space before attending a cycling event.
What to bring
- A good quality mountain bike or gravel bike.
- At least one spare inner tube, tyre levers and pump for your bike. Make sure it's the correct type and size. Plus any special tools your bike needs.
- Clothing: choose suitable clothes and footwear for the weather forecast and time of year. You will be exercising so lightweight layered clothing is best, but bring plenty of layers as it is likely to be cold. Shorts or close-fitting trousers are best even in rain, as they allow free movement of your legs. Jeans are useless if it rains but tracksuit bottoms need to be not too baggy or they may snag in the chain and cause an accident. You'll need flat soled trainers for standard pedals. Warm gloves are essential!
- Cyclist's Helmet - Outdoorlads policy asks you to wear a helmet to events
- Bag you will need a small day-sack to carry essential additional warm clothing, water and an emergency snacks.
- A change of clothing, towel etc for when we finish as you'll probably be covered in mud when we finish!
- A bike light is a good idea as there is a small amount of road riding
Any questions, please ask the leader
Food & drink
Please bring substantial amounts of water (at least 1.5 litres) and snacks. There will not be anywhere to buy food or drink on this ride.
