St Mungo Museum of Religious Life & Art
There are several things to see and do on this event. The main ones being the museum and Cathedral which I would suggest an hour or so in each. Provand's Lordship is very small and doesn't take long to look about. A wander around the Necropolis brings the event to an end. I'll organise a venue for food or drinks after when I know numbers etc.
The last event I did like this was extremely popular and got good feedback, hopefully this will be the same.
St Mungo Museum is named after the city's patron saint who brought the Christian faith to Glasgow in the 6th century. It is built on the site of the medieval Bishops’ Castle and is designed in its style. The galleries are full of displays, objects and stunning works of art that explore the importance of religion in peoples’ lives across the world and across time.
Glasgow Cathedral. The awe-inspiring building dedicated to St Kentigern, also known as St Mungo, was built in the 1100s and drew countless pilgrims to his shrine. Today, it’s the most complete medieval cathedral on the Scottish mainland, having survived the Protestant Reformation almost intact. The cathedral is a working church and opening hours may vary due to private services and events, also closes 4pm with last entry 3:15pm.
Provand's Lordship, the oldest house in Glasgow, has reopened after a £1.6 million repair and improvement programme. Provand’s Lordship was built in 1471. It is one of only four surviving medieval buildings in Glasgow. A visit to Provand's Lordship offers an opportunity to step back in time. Discover what life was like in the city 500 years ago.
The Glasgow Necropolis. Victorian-era cemetery containing the graves & mausoleums of prominent Glaswegians of the day.
This is a very flexible event, feel free to join or leave us anytime between 2-5pm, just let me know.
