A Gravel cycle following a well-established route in the Galloway area of Southern Scotland.
Join us on this 60Km gravel cycle over and under viaducts and through scenic forests.
This is route number 06 from the popular "Gravel rides Scotland" book by Ed Shoote. We did route 07 (Big country route) in August 2021. Some of the pictures are from that event, but they give an idea of what to expect. Hoping to get through a few more of these rides in 2024.

The distance for this event may appear short/medium but cycling on rough ground can be very demanding. A reasonable level of fitness and confidence on tricky surfaces is essential.
This is a group cycle and nobody gets left behind.
A Strava route for the event is available to logged-in members.
Also this route uses much of the only UCI Gravel World Series race held in the UK (The Gralloch). A short video can be seen below:

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete the Cycling Participation Statement in addition to booking your event space before attending a cycling event.
What to bring
Bike: A gravel type bike, a mountain bike, a hybrid or any other bike with reasonably "chunky" tyres. If you want any advice about bike suitability please message me via Outdoorlads.
Helmet: OutdoorLads requires you to wear one
Clothing: lightweight and layered, colourful and/or reflective clothing will make you more visible to other road users
Footwear: suitable for your bike and pedals
Gloves: cycle gloves help avoid blisters, and are good in the cold
Punctures: spare inner tube, bike tyre pump and tyre levers
Tools: any special tools that your bike needs
Small snacks: such as chocolate or energy bars
Plenty of water: in bottle/s on your bike or in a daysack/bladder
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Eye protection: avoid getting grit or insects in your eyes, sunglasses are OK if they are not made of glass and not too shaded.
Sun cream: take care, even on overcast days
Bike lights: be seen and safe
Storage: small day-sack or a bag on your bike
Mobile Phone: keep it in a waterproof bag for use in emergencies
Food & drink
This cycle is well away from any shops, so we need to be self sufficient. Two water bottles and lots of snacks are essential.
Aim to stop about halfway on Raiders Road for break.
