Join Stuart on his first ride assessment to become a Leisure/MTB bike leader. The ride will be assessed by Neil aka Nelly.
- A 15 gentle mile leisure ride on the Downs Link path.
- This ride is aimed MTB or hybrid bike cyclists with a reasonable level of fitness. (sorry no road bikes)
- Please ensure your bike is in good working order and well maintained.
- A helmet is Compulsory, you will not be permitted to take part without!
Route Description:
Quiet cycle path beside the river Adur
We will meet at Shoreham and from there we head out on the Downs Link walking and cycle path. The Downs Link is a repurposed railway line that was disbanded in “Beeching cuts” and used to service the old cement works next to the river Adur.
Castle ruins and beautiful countryside
The path takes us up to Bramber which is 1000 year old castle ruins and settlements. Leaving the castle we head north leaving Bramber we pass Wykham Farm and rejoin the old railway line. From here the ride is gentle through the West Sussex countryside, rolling over Victorian iron bridges.
Coffee stop with lovely views
Riding upto Henfield we come to our second stop. The Cabin coffee stop that is Adjacent to the cycle path and Commanding magnificent views of the south downs.
From here we will head back down the path arriving in shoreham where the event will end at the pub if you wish to joins us.

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
What to bring
Bike: a mountain bike or hybrid (no road bikes)
Helmet: OutdoorLads requires you to wear one
Clothing: lightweight and layered, shorts are great even in rain as they allow free movement of your legs. Avoid jeans, which are uncomfortable when wet, and baggy tracksuit bottoms, which can snag in the chain. Colourful and/or reflective clothing will make you more visible to other road users
Footwear: grippy soles if your bike has standard pedals
Gloves: cycle gloves help avoid blisters, and are good in the cold
Punctures: spare inner tube, bike tyre pump and tyre levers and puncher repair kit.
Tools: any special tools that your bike needs
Small snacks: such as chocolate or energy bars
Plenty of water: in bottle/s on your bike or in a daysack/bladder
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Eye protection: avoid getting grit or insects in your eyes; sunglasses are OK if they are not made of glass and not too shaded
Sun cream: take care, even on overcast days
Bike lights: be seen and safe
Storage: small day-sack or a bag on your bike
Mobile Phone: keep it in a waterproof bag for use in emergencies
Food & drink
Please bring plenty of snacks.
Water is essential, at least 2L
