The 'New Precipice walk' is a locally well known route, It starts in the charming and historic market town of Dolgellau which started life in the Welsh gold rush times, and is now popular with hikers and climbers exploring the Cadair Idris mountain range that looms over the town. Our walk explores the upper reaches of the stunning Mawddach Estuary. Initially we follow the Arfon Wnion which rushes through the town, to the small settlement of Llaneltyd where it joins with the Arfon Mawddach. Our walk then ascends sharply up the side of Foel Ipris (328 m) from where we should get some beautiful views down the estuary towards the coast and of the Cadir Idris mountain range. We descend back down through the forest and cross the river on a rustic toll bridge (charge 30 pence – please bring change), to stop for a drink at the incredibly scenic terraces of the George III Hotel in Penmaenpool. The last sector of the walk follows a disused railway which is now a well established cycle and walking route. For those that wish to round off the day, Dolgellau has some great cafes and eateries.
This event is one of 2 planned for this weekend. Saturday's walk can be found at this link.
