This event is intended for attendees of BIG Summer Camp 2024.
An easy Sunday stroll down to the lovely coastline fronting the seaside settlements of Ferring and Worthing, ending at the elegant Worthing Pier. At around 6.5 miles, its an easy walk along a traffic-free coast path, which is part of the King Charles III national coastal route. The last part of the route is along Worthing's wide promenade. Although if the tide is low enough we may detour to walk along the flat sands for parts. We'll take it at a leisurely pace.
We'll likely stop for beach time and, potentially, cafe stops akong the way. Whilst the tide is low for much of the walk, there may be enough tide to go for a sea dip at the end of the walk so you might want to bring swimwear and a towel.
The walk ends at Worthing Pier which is free to visit. Bus service 700 goes back to base camp and leaves from near the pier every 20 minutes, with a walk of half a mile from the bus stop (Stop name: Arlington Crescent, Angmering) back to camp. We can return as a group (bus capacity permitting) or you can stay on in Worthing for as long as you wish.
What to bring
This is a leisure walk on the flat so wear comfortable shoes for walking in. You are advised to apply and bring a high-factor suncream.
Bring swimwear and a towel if you wish to swim (note this will be tide-dependent).
Food & drink
Please bring drinks and snacks. It is advasable that you bring a packed lunch if you wish to definitely eat at lunchtime: whilst there a couple of cafes along the route, these can get busy and there may be a wait for food.
Once in Worthing, there will be opportunity to buy sandwiches, fish and chips etc. (we are likely to arrive 2-3pm).
