5 people attending
15 places left
This event is intended for attendees at BIG Summer Camp 2023
This walk starts at the Big Summer Camp site and heads East towards Eccleston Manor a brick-and-flint medieval building first constructed in 1324. Nearby from our route we might see the Eccleston Mill a windmill without sails, it may originally have been a water mill.
We will continue East until we come to Highdown Hill, then we will turn North until we have cross the A27 going under a tunnel.
North of the main road is The World's End public house where the friendly landlord is pleased to serve groups.
We'll take a path North alongside the lake and head for the Village of Clapham, from the village we'll take a route to the church, a 12th century building with a hatch so lepers can join in church services. North East of the church is Church Copse the most haunted place in Sussex being "the center of UFO sightings, satanic practices, deaths and lost pets." people who have camped there report the absence of birdsong and small animals, we will of course walk through it..
We'll head North across more pleasant open country from the Copse until we reach a 90 degree corner of the A280. from here we'll head South East in open Downland across the base of Patching Hill.
When we reach the Surgeon's Fields which is a mature wood we'll turn South and take a route to Hammerpot where there is another underpass under the main road, then back to camp on minor roads.
