BSumC 2019: Chanctonbury Ring Circular Walk SATURDAY
24 people attending
1 place left
This is one of the events organised as part of BIG Summer Camp 2019. This event is on Saturday: there is an identical walk on Sunday.
Classic rolling downland and panoramic views from the South Downs Way are guaranteed for those who join this 12 mile walk. Starting a short drive from base camp, we will ascend to the atmospheric Chanctonbury Ring, an ancient hill fort sitting atop the South Downs and offering sweeping views across the downs. We will head along the South Downs Way for a few miles before dropping into the historic and intimate market town of Steyning, where there may be time for refreshments. From there we will climb back onto the downs and join the Monarch's Way to head to the village of Findon and the promise of a potential pub stop. We then make our way back through meadows for a couple of miles to return to the cars and then to base camp.
What to bring
Water: bring at least two litres
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking, trainers are OK if the ground is dry and there’s little chance of rain
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters

Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
Sunglasses: for any sunny day, even in winter
Sun cream: can be useful even on cloudy and winter days
