BSC24: Conwy Castle (Sat)

This is one of the events organised as part of Big Spring Camp 2024.

Join us for a walk around Conwy Castle, a World Heritage Site.  Built by Edward I, during his conquest of Wales, between 1283 and 1287.  Thanks to restored spiral staircases in its great towers you can walk a complete circuit around the battlements of the castle.  It is reportedly one of the most magnificent medieval fortresses in Europe.

This famous fortress is exceptionally well preserved. It contains the most intact set of medieval royal apartments in Wales. The high curtain wall and eight lofty towers rise almost as impressively as when they were built more than 700 years ago.

Entrance fee is £11.90 or free for members of English Heritage or Cadw.

After visiting the castle, if weather permits, we'll go a walk across the Conwy Suspension Bridge, a Grade I-listed structure and is one of the first road suspension bridges in the world.  We will also be able to see the Grade I-listed Conwy Railway Bridge designed by Robert Stephenson.

Depending on the time we'll hopefully be able to stop to get some food from the chip shop and sit on the sea front watching the tourists at the Smallest House in Britian (after tasking a selfie there ourselves obviously :) )

We'll sort out car shares to Conwy at the time of meeting and we should be back in plenty of time for evening activities on the site. A Telegram group will be set up closer to the time which  can be used for questions, introductions etc.
