BSC2023: Betws-y-Coed to Llyn Elsi hike (Sat 09:30)
14 people attending
11 places left
This is one of the events organised as part of Big Spring Camp 2023.
The scenery, wildlife and peaceful atmosphere as you walk around Llyn Elsi are really worth the Hike from Betws-y-Coed. The trail, which we will start from outside Saint Marys Church in Betws-y-Coed rises and decends steeply from Betws and follows a combination of forest roads and narrower footpaths where you can expect mud, rocks and tree roots!
The hike will take us from Betws-y-Coed where we will walk along the road from the Church and cross a bridge to take us through the Gwdyr Forest. After a walk of 1.5km we will go down a set of steps to the Afton Llugwy river. We will then cross over the road and start the assent to Llyn Elsi. We will have lunch by the lake and take in some of the amazing views before making our way back to Betws. Where, if you choose, you can have a walk around the shops or grab a drink or Coffee.
Walk Photos in this event page were taken by the event leader and permission has been granted for use by OutdoorLads.
IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
What to bring
Medicines - if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Day rucksack - typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely.
Boots or sturdy walking shoes and walking socks. Trainers are not suitable for this walk as this may be muddy in places.
Layered clothing - this lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or T-shirt) and a mid-layer (a micro-fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece).
Quick-drying shorts or trousers - no jeans, please, as they become heavy and cold in the rain; breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days. Shorts are OK.
Waterproof jacket - essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather. Light waterproofs (jacket and trousers) that you can pack away into a small bag are a good idea for the warmer times of year.
Sunglasses - Sun cream - if we hit gold for the weather.
Food & drink
Water - the recommendation is at least two litres.
Snacks - such as biscuits, energy bars, fruit and chocolate.
Lunch - make your own lunch or buy something to eat from Betws-y-Coed. There is usually a pack lunch option at Big Spring Camp.
