BSC2019: Around the Orme day walk (Sunday 10:15)
25 people attending
5 places left
An 8 mile walk along Conwy Sands and The North Wales Coastal Path, exploring Great Ormes Head and visiting Victorian Llandudno for fish and chips etc. This walk involves a short drive to the start.
This is an easy going walk combined with some light hearted tourism and is a contrast from the seriousness of the mountains.
Expect some fantastic coastal views looking back towards Snowdonia and out towards The Isle of Man. We start off along the shore line overlooking the vast expanse of Conwy Sands and Conwy Bay.
We will then go around the circumference and climb up onto the summit of The Great Orme - a headland jutting out into The Irish Sea. The geology, wildlife, archaeology and landscape of the Great Orme (Pen-y-Gogarth) on the Creuddyn Peninsula is of such importance that much of the headland has been designated a Special Area of Conservation, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Heritage Coast.
Our route will pass all the things of interest which subject to demand and timing we can incorporate e.g. The caves, the lighthouse, The Telegraph Station, the Victorian Electric tramway, the visitor centre (beer and refreshments available), the copper mines, the Country Park and Nature reserve with its Kashmiri Goats, and finally dropping down to the famous Victorian resort of Llandudno.
