BSC2019: Trad/Multipitch Climbing (Sunday 9:30)
8 people attending
2 places left
This year, we will again be offering two days’ worth of climbing events suitable for a range of abilities. On Saturday, we’ll arrange a sport climbing day, whilst this Sunday event will be focused towards those who get their thrills in trad and/or multi-pitch!
For this event we are able to offer a team of experienced outdoor climbing leaders in Nick, Rich and Dave, to provide a day of trad single and/or multi-pitch climbing to take on some of North Wales' classic climbing challenges and enjoy the fantastic landscapes from a completely different perspective. The precise nature of the day will depend on the number of members who sign up, their previous experience and the weather on the day. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this activity, the multi-pitch option will only be available to a small number of more experienced climbers; if this is your preference, please let the event leader know when you sign up to the event and when doing so, please let the leader know your recent climbing experience and what climbing gear you have.
What level of climbing experience should I have?
This event is aimed at climbers with some recent outdoor trad climbing experience, and at the very least you should have some recent experience of belaying a lead climber for this event. Although we will try to cater for less experienced climbers too, this will be dependent on the availability of experienced trad climbers and event leaders in order to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment on the day.
If you think you haven’t got the necessary experience, but would like to give outdoor climbing a try, why not take a look at the Sport Climbing event on Saturday instead?
What about the weather?
Members should understand that rock climbing is weather dependent – more so than some other outdoor activities - not least as it can be dangerous to climb on wet rock. Whilst we will do everything reasonably possible to run the event as described, the event leader may need to change the location and/or other event details to best suit the anticipated weather. We will advise members booked on, or interested, in the event of this as soon as is practical, but you should understood that in certain circumstances it may be necessary to move the event to an indoor climbing centre, or cancel the event all together.
Participation Statement
As a BMC Affiliate member, Outdoorlads draws your attention to the fact that climbing is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement.
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
What to bring
Kit List: You will need to bring your own climbing gear, including: helmet, harness, rock shoes, Belay plate and screw-gate karabiner and chalk bag. If you don't have any of these these, please message the event leader when booking as we may able to provide them - but unfortunately we can't provide climbing shoes.
If you have outdoor climbing gear, including rope(s) and rack then please bring these along too so that we can ensure we’re not short and to give us a bit of flexibility on the day, but please make sure it is in good condition.
What to Wear: Bring clothes suitable for spending a full day outdoors, which should include wind & waterproofs, and a few layers that will allow you to be comfortable whilst climbing as well as when belaying and between climbs. (Outdoor climbing can mean a lot of standing around!) Also wear boots or sturdy trainers for the walk up to the crag.
Food & drink
You will need a packed lunch, drinks and any snacks to last you the day as we will hope to spend the full day at the crag.
