BPW23: Chatsworth Loop (Sat 10:00)
30 people attending
0 places left
This event is part of the Outdoorlads 2023 *BIG Peaky Weekender* and participation is intended for those attending the weekend event.
This walk will take us south east from Thornbridge Outdoor Centre along the Monsal Trail towards Bakewell. We’ll skirt around the town and turn east, walking uphill through a golf course and woodland to gain the summit of a small hill where we reach a lane. We’ll follow this lane, forking right after a while on to a track down towards the pretty Chatsworth Estate village of Edensor. We will walk through the village (stopping at the cake stand in the middle of the village - so bring some cash if you want to sample the home made cakes!) and down to Chatsworth Park. Here, if the group wants to, we will have the option to make a short detour to the old stables next to Chatsworth House, where there are toilets and you can buy drinks and snacks. We’ll head south through the park land along the River Derwent to the village of Calton Lees. Here we’ll turn west along a track, which takes us up on to Calton Pastures. Here we’ll stop for some lunch, taking in the lovely views. We’ll then carry on walking west back towards Bakewell. We’ll cut through woodland downhill to the town, re-joining the Monsal Trail before heading back to the Centre for some much needed post-walk refreshment!
