A nine mile walk along marked paths and byways.

First the fun stuff

Had a long week? Stressed and in need of some fresh air and friendly company?

Join Joey for a circular stroll through the heart of the Midlands, taking in the beautiful sights and sounds of rural Warwickshire. Taking us along the pretty byways from Atherstone - a place which can lay claim to the oldest ball game played in Britain - along the Coventry canal, passing to site of Queen Boudicca's uprising and defeat by the Roman garrison.

From here we move on to Hartshill Wharf where local quarry rock was brought down to the canals for transport, we shall make our way uphill along Apple Pie Lane towards the lovely village of Hartshill where our first stop is located. If people wish to do so there is a pub here for a quick refreshment.

Then it’s a quick walk over the road and into the forest of Hartshill and country park where we can stop for a lunch break if it is damp.

We will continue towards the Oldbury Quarry which is still active today and operated my Tarmac LTD, so no points for guessing what they mine there. If the weather is favourable then we can stop here for lunch with a lovely view of the quarry and the rolling hills of the North Warwickshire countryside.

We then make our way across Atherstone Golf course (if you hear "FORE!" duck) back down the hill and into Atherstone. The walk itself is just under 10 miles. The first half of the walk is a flat canal walk, the second half is a mixture of forest and bridle path up several hills.
