Borrowdale Camping

Borrowdale is one of the most popular and beautiful valleys in the Lakes and is brilliantly positioned to tackle some of the best known fells. A huge range of walks are available from the site - both challenging and more leisurely. You could tackle Great Gable or Scafell or maybe wander in some of the quieter valleys exploring delightful rivers and tarns away from the crowds.
Nature recovery
While there will be the usual walk available, this weekend has a brilliant additional 'Nature Recovery' theme with a unique guided volunteering opportunity in the expert hands of a National Trust Ranger.
On Saturday you will have the opportunity to join a National Trust ranger on a bog restoration project. Bog restoration is a crucial tool in carbon capture and our host for the working party will provide a fascinating incite into how they are 'saving the world one bog at a time'.
You can book on this event here
The site
The site is in a stunning location with fells all around, and a river close by. It has hot showers (50p) and the basic things you need but it is not a luxury site.
Music - is not allowed on this event
Photos: Take by the event leader and used with permission.
Dogs: Dogs are allowed on site free of charge, usual rules apply. This is the Lake District - sheep are everywhere.
Campervans: Are allowed at no additional cost, however there are no electrical hook-ups or hard-standing facilities. The field we are using is not suitable for larger motor homes.
IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
What to bring
If you would like to go on one of the high walks (eg Scafell, Great Gable etc) you will need proper walking boots and waterproofs - even in the summer. Don't forget to bring a water bottle / bladder and a packed lunch for Saturday!
For camping, you'll need:
Tent: make sure you know how to pitch it, even in bad weather or in the dark. Check you have all the poles, ropes and pegs. A 3 season tent is the minimum recommended level of protection.
Sleeping bag: one that provides adequate warmth, designed to go below the temperature that you expect
Sleeping mat: will keep you warmer and dryer
Waterproof bags: for spare, dry clothing
Food: search online for camping food that’s easy to cook and filling
Hot drinks: at least in cold weather
Cooking Equipment: check you have fuel and know how yours works
Eating equipment: mug, bowl or plate and cutlery
Washing up equipment: detergent, brush/scourer and tea towel
Wash kit: remember to include a towel, shower gel and shampoo
Torch: or easier still, a head torch
Food & drink
NOTE; The local pub is, at the time of writing, closed. In past events we many people have eaten there but that is not currently an option. I will notify you if/when it re-opens: hopefully in time for our evebt. The nearest shops however are in Keswick. If you arrive from Keswick you will most likely drive past Booths which is a great supermarket to stock-up in. There is no shop on site.
