This event is intended for those on the BIG North Christmas 2024 event.
Want to burn off your celebratory dinner and drinks before you've even had them? If so why not join us for the Ambleside parkrun from Big North Christmas?
The course is 5000m (5k) long. This has been accurately measured by parkrun with a professional measuring wheel. It's run on paths, although some sections of the course do accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
The important bit... This is about personal goals. You run/walk at your own pace, don't be scared that you may be slower than other people. Some walk, some run, some jog, some do a combination of all three.
To take part in a parkrun and get your official time, you will need to have registered to receive your all important barcode. You will need to bring this barcode with you either printed or on your phone. Parkrun events are run nationwide and indeed internationally, so once you're signed up you can attend anywhere. If you don't have a barcode you can still run but won't get a time.
The official start of the run is 9am. Because of difficulty getting cars out (most people will probably be blocked in) the plan is to go on foot and back by bus so this is a bit of an early start (we will need to leave by 8am to get to the start power walking/slow jogging - don't worry though I'm not a fast runner!) but should be rewarding nonetheless!

The leader will also be leading a mountain walk timed to be able to fit it in after parkrun with time for a quick shower - this is here:

What to bring
Running shoes/trainers.
Headphones if you need a pumping soundtrack to help you hit your personal best.
Whatever you need to complete the course.
Clothing so you're not freezing cold at the end (though not expensive stuff as it'll just need to be left in the field by the finish or carried around).
Food & drink
Water if you need it for the run.
We will probably go for a quick coffee afterwards.
