This event is for people on BIG North Christmas hostel weekend.
A popular Big North Christmas leg stretcher walk, that isn't too strenuous but works up a great appetite for the Christmas dinner to follow. We'll leave from the hostel and head down the road till we come to the pretty village of Grasmere. A trip here isn't complete without a visit to the gingerbread shop and checking out the churchyard, the final resting place of the poet William Wordsworth and his family. We will allow some time in Grasmere before heading out of the village and past Dove Cottage (Wordsworth's family home). We then leave roads behind and make a slight climb along footpaths ("the coffin route" so called as it was used for transporting corpses in medieval times to the consecrated ground at St Oswalds in Grasmere for burial) and get elevated views over both Grasmere and Rydal water, till we get to Rydal Mount (tea rooms!!). We then drop down via the Badger Pub and cross the river Rothay to head back to the hostel along the banks of Rydal Water. Passing the south end of Grasmere, its a gentle incline back to the hostel. There will be ample breaks for refreshments and photo opportunities on the walk.

IMPORTANT! - Participation Statement
You MUST complete a Participation Statement, in addition to booking your event space before attending an OutdoorLads event. You only need to complete this Participation Statement once, not for each event you attend.
Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are extremely mild, or who has recently tested positive for Covid-19, is asked not to attend.
What to bring
The paths are generally good but as it may be a bit slippery, you should have footwear with some decent grip. Waterproofs are always a good idea in the Lake District at any time of the year. Gloves and a hat are advised too. If you are planning to call in for refreshments, don't forget your cash or cards.
Food & drink
There are shops, cafes and pubs in Grasmere as well as a tearooms and pub later in the walk for getting food and drink, or bring along a packed lunch. A hot drink might be a good idea as it is December (or hot toddy, we don't judge)
