Bala : Llyn Tegid and Bala Lake Railway

This 5 mile walk takes us up a river valley before transversing the hillside overlooking Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), combined with a ride on the Bala Lake narrow gauge steam train.
Llyn Tegid is Wales’ largest natural lake. The lake is a popular place for water sports such as paddleboarding, canoeing, windsurfing and fishing and there's some good walking trails too.
After meeting up we will board the steam train (One way tickets cost £10) and travel to the actual walk starting point, to begin the route back to Bala. Starting from the train station at Llangower we pass St Gwawr's Church which was first recorded in 1291. We then take a tarmac forestry road which follows the Arfon Glyn rushing down from our waypoint 210m above. Having put the hard work in the rest of the walk takes us along a bridal track through forest and moorland giving nice views of the 3 summits of Cadir Idris, and to the north Arenig Fawr and if you are lucky, a glimpse of Yr Wyddfa 25 miles away. Down below Llyn Tegid comes into view as we progress toward Bala.
On arrival in Bala there will be the option to extend the afternoon in one of the pubs or cafes, for anyone who is not in a hurry to get away.
